Most Gurgaon apartments have split ACs, but many older houses and some offices still use window ACs. They work on the same refrigeration principle but have different service needs and costs.
Split AC Service
Split ACs have two units — indoor (evaporator) and outdoor (condenser). Servicing involves cleaning both units separately. The indoor coil requires careful cleaning to avoid damage. Service cost: ₹400–700 for basic service. Deep cleaning (recommended annually) is ₹700–1,200 and uses a jet wash on the indoor coil.
Window AC Service
Window ACs are a single unit with all components together, making them simpler to service. The coil is more accessible. Service cost: ₹300–500. However, removing a window AC for thorough cleaning is labour-intensive and may cost more if the unit needs to be taken out.
Gas Refilling – Both Types
Gas refilling cost is similar for both: ₹1,000–2,500 depending on the type of refrigerant (R22, R32, or R410A). Older ACs use R22 which is being phased out and costs more. If your AC is 10+ years old and needs a gas refill, it may be worth evaluating whether repair or replacement makes more financial sense.
Which Lasts Longer?
With regular servicing, both types can last 10–15 years. Split ACs are more efficient for larger rooms. Window ACs are simpler mechanically and can be easier to repair. In Gurgaon's dusty environment, annual deep cleaning is recommended for both.
